Master the Art of Layering - Part 2

We've entered the in between. The abyss. The yo-yo season! Is it Winter or Spring or Summer? It's all too familiar, happening every year, and still we attempt to resist it. So how do we live in the chilly now yet also count on the things we purchase to carry us into warmth later?
Layering - but let's talk home. This transitional season calls for light, natural, simple layers. While we love the fuzzy winter throws on the sofa, we tire of them at this point in the season. Albeit still needing them. The compromise? Switch out the fuzzy wool for cotton or linen - they are your superstars. We know the day is going to start off cool and as the sun warms the air, we will be in a sweat by mid day and want to throw the windows wide open! In your home, they offer a light overall feel. Even if you prefer deeper colour tones, the lightweight fabrics will lend a fresh feeling. Layering functional items that are visually appealing make a space feel fresh, organized and intentional. Did this all sound familiar? Did you just read this in Part 1? The wonderful thing about fashion & home - the ideology applies easily to both!
In your home :
1. Swap. Trade out your chunky, fuzzy throw blankets for a light, simple style. The Textural Waffle throw is a gorgeous option. Or the Margot Woven throw if you want to add a touch of pattern. Throw over your legs during morning coffee, your shoulders as the sun starts to dip below the horizon as the day ends or wrap around you to take off the chill from a spring breeze. And while you're at it, trade out your winter pillows for a linen option. Fresh neutrals are always a great idea.
2. Edit. Take out winter greens and fill your vases with simple stems such as eucalyptus, allium or Queen Anne's Lace. We find an abundance of one of these filling a vase offers a frothy simplicity.
3. Reorganize. Declutter by grouping similar items together. Highlight key spots such as a dining table, coffee table, mantel and sideboard. Using trays, or wooden boards to collect items together not only keeps it tidy, but also adds personality and intention to your styling. The Morella and Pascal are slightly elevated and have a unique simple texture. Ideal for candles, notebooks, treasures given to you by your kids or grandkids. The Travertine tray is perfect in a bathroom or kitchen for soap and lotion or for jewelry.
4. Contain. If you want to have things accessible but not on display, add in a few baskets to hide those items from sight. Ranging from large to small, we have a variety of functional options ideal for ultimate organization and style. The Omega is made of a sturdy woven rattan and can handle bulky items and heavy use. The Bora is perfect for smaller items such as scarves, mitts and toques. We don't want to have a visual reminder of these items but if we put them away, we are sure to curse the weather and invite another snowstorm! The Bimini are the ideal size to tuck under a side table or place on a countertop. They are simple and add textural warmth without feeling heavy. Group phone cords, mail or small toys to stay organized!
Transitioning your home with layers can be so simple! When you put the focus on key areas, you can easily refresh and update your space while still keeping it cozy and inviting.
